As a parent, we tend to worry about a lot. We worry about choosing the right stroller, the right diapers, will they get into a good school or who will they marry one day. Though we do our best to make wise choices for our kids there is still a lot that is out of our control.

Yet if we are imperfect parents, living in an imperfect world and we want the best of everything for our kids, how much more does our perfect Heavenly Father want that for them? God not only wants the best for our kids but He knows what they need.

God has also entrusted us with our kids and wants us to come to Him in prayer for our kids. As we pray for our kids we can rest knowing that God hears our prayers. Nothing is too big or small to pray about. Often times we underestimate the importance of praying but when we do God always hears us and as we pray God can also give us a peace and encouragement as we continue to raise our kids.

When we pray for our kids we want to pray regularly. Whether it’s on the way to work or before bed.

Pray boldly. Pray for things that they haven’t faced yet. Pray and declare the good things God will and can do in their lives. Pray for the current circumstances they are facing and for favorable outcomes.

Even though all of our kids are unique there are ways that every parent can pray for them.

5 Ways To Pray For Your Kids

1. Pray for their mind

Pray that your kids will have an increasing sensitivity to what is true and what is a lie. As they are navigating both positive and negative influences in their lives may God point them in the right direction.

Pray that your kids grow in knowledge and love for God. May they set out on a path to pursue God and never stray from it.

2. Pray for their heart

Pray that your kids hearts are softened towards God and the sacrifice He has made for us. Pray that God draws your kids close to His heart and that they are captivated by His love. Pray that they love God first and most above all other things.

Pray that God will guard your kids hearts. Pray that they can see the difference between being led by their emotions and being led by what God wants for them.

3. Pray for their words

Pray that your kids learn that what they say has the power to give life to others and there is value in what they say to others. Pray that they use words of compassion and healing towards others.

Pray that your kids turn to God first when making decisions through praying and His Word. Pray that they also seek wise counsel.

4. Pray for their path

Pray that God directs them. Pray that God guides them and that they follow Him all the days of their lives.

Pray that wherever they go they will bring God’s truth to others who need it. Pray that your kids will know that they can serve God and others no matter how old they are.

5. Pray for their friendship

Pray that your kids will be able to stand firm for their convictions and not be swayed by society and others.

Pray for your kids to develop healthy, godly, friendships with others. Pray that their friends will build them up and encourage them in their faith. Pray that your kids do that for others too.

As you pray these things over your kids also pray for yourself as a parent. It’s easy to worry or feel like we have no clue how to parent the phase our kids are in or the new phase on the horizon but God is great and gracious. Our kids are a beautiful gift and God has chosen us to be their parents. God hears us when we pray. So pray that God gives you wisdom as you raise your kids. James 1:5 says, “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.”
