Inside Out – Part 1
Let’s face it, the world around us is changing. The bubble that we used to live in has burst and we are vulnerable and we can feel it. Luckily, we aren’t the first people of God to feel this way. Not only do we have brothers and sisters around the world facing great persecution, but God also gave us an example in the Scriptures. In the book of Daniel, we see a man dragged from the comforts of his homeland as a POW and placed as a servant into the pagan kingdom that ransacked his people. We ask questions like: What did he do? How did he survive? But the real question we should ask is “How did he thrive?” In the face of adversity, will we cower in fear or face the roar with great confidence?
What are some things in life that we absolutely have to be in control of?
Can you remember a time in your life when things felt like they were out of your control?
Read Daniel 1:8-14. What do you think gave Daniel the resolve to not defile himself, even in the midst of a very difficult situation?
Pastor James said: “You never have to compromise to get control when you live with conviction that God has control.” Why is it so easy to compromise a conviction in the midst of a difficult situation?
Can you think of a time when you compromised on a conviction in order to try to control a situation? If you could have a do-over, what would you do differently? How do you think it would have changed the outcome?
If small decisions have the ability to set the direction of our lives, how important is it for us to trust God in every circumstance in our life?
Why is fear one of the most dangerous emotions we struggle with?
Are there things, people or circumstances in your life right now that are causing you to be fearful? How can your Life Group help you battle you fears?
