Together - How to Stop Being Lonely

1 John 4:7-12

  1. Read 1 John 4:7-12. How does putting verse 10 in context change the way you look at the phrase, “we also ought to love one another”?
  2. Take a moment to think about the relationship that has most impacted your life. It could be your spouse, a sibling, a friend, a coworker, etc. How was this relationship formed? What actions have helped that relationship to grow?
  3. Read Matthew 22:37-39. Jesus describes loving one another as equally important as loving God. How should this realization affect the priorities in your life? What priorities are keeping you from loving your neighbor?
  4. Read Philippians 2:3-4. Increased loneliness increases selfishness; the more self-centered you are, the lonelier you become. What wisdom does this passage provide to help us break the cycle of loneliness?
  5. Why is it so hard to be vulnerable with others? Why is it worth the risk? (Read 1 John 4:7-12 to emphasize.)
