You Asked For It - Part 5

What do you do when you’re trying to deal with the issues, but the issue doesn’t go away? The person that you love is hurting themselves, is hurting you, and is hurting the relationship? You really thought it would be solved by now. You are trying to do what is right, but it’s still a mess. This week we will look at HOW Paul instructs us to set boundaries with difficult people.

1. What stood out to you in Pastor James’ message this week?

2. Read Galatians 6:1-5. What are your thoughts on the differences between a burden and a load?

3. We are expected to deal with our own feelings, attitudes, thoughts, and actions. When you try to carry someone else’s load, you are never able to deal with the issue because the issue is that you are trying to carry something that you are not responsible for. In what ways can helping others become unhealthy or detrimental when boundaries are not set? Share examples or personal experiences where the lack of boundaries in helping others had negative consequences.

4. Pastor James talked about the difference between restoring someone and rescuing them. Can you share a time when you tried to make a miserable person happy? How did that work out for you?

5. Pastor James said healing can come when we “Share Godly wisdom.” Many relationships die, not because of what was said but because of what was not said. Love will never tolerate things that are wrong in the eyes of God. How can open and honest dialogue, infused with Godly wisdom, create a healthier and more resilient foundation for relationships?

6. Read Galatians 6:7-10 How can it be helpful when we stand back and allow someone to deal with the consequences of their actions?

7. Discuss practical strategies for establishing healthy boundaries when offering help or support to others. How can we communicate our willingness to assist while ensuring we are not shouldering burdens that are not ours to carry?
